about us

First of all, it is pronounced snob-urbia (not snow-burbia). Snoburbia is a play on the words “snob” and “suburbia.” We celebrate and poke gentle fun at the wealthy suburbs of Washington, D.C. and other big American cities.

Snobbery is universal. It exists on the East Coast, West Coast, and around all the large cities in between – and in other western countries. Google “snob” sometime and see this for yourself – hundreds of entries devoted to snobbery.

While snoburbs are each different from one another, they have a thread in common, especially academic competition, granite countertops, and a general well-aren’t-we-as-pleased-as-punch atmosphere.

The word “snoburbs” came from Melbourne, Australia, and was used to describe the snobbish suburbs east of the city. At least that’s our story (and we’re sticking to it.) We didn’t make up the term but it struck a chord – the one which played, “Shouldn’t that be made into a pithy t-shirt design?” We gave the word a twist and named our site snoburbia.

Most of our t-shirts follow the snoburbia theme, but we also offer humorous or interesting (we think) tees that we come up with when giddy from little sleep.

We’re a tiny new company, and we care about what you think. Please drop us a line at info@snoburbia.com.
